BSWPS Blogging and Emailing Guidelines

BSWPS BLOGGING AND EMAILING GUIDELINES

In working with blogs and emails all Brunswick South West PS students need to ensure that they follow these important guidelines. They are designed to make sure that they enjoy these tools. These guidelines are adapted from the Acceptable Use Agreement for internet and digital technologies document.

BE SAFE

  • Only ever use your first name when you are writing on this or other blogs or wikis.
  • Never use any other student’s last name.
  • Never post or send any personal information–such as your home phone number or home address on this or any other blog or wiki.
  • Never share any of you usernames or passwords with anyone and never log in as another student.
  • Always tell your parents or teacher right away if you come across anything that makes you feel uncomfortable.
  • Never make arrangements to meet anyone over the internet or share telephone numbers.
  • Do not send photos of yourself or others
  • Do not include captions under photos with your name or your classmates’ names.

BE RESPECTFUL

  • Remember the “grandma rule” that anything you put on the internet could be read by your grandmother so only write things you could say to the nicest of grannies.
  • Be a good online citizen and never write or post anything that could hurt anyone else.
  • Make sure you publish only your own work. Don’t under any circumstances use other people’s work and call it your own.
  • Be considerate of others and give good feedback. When commenting, show others that you have read what they have written rather than just saying “great job”.
  • Always start with a positive comment before suggesting an improvement or asking a question.

BE LITERATE

  • Think carefully about what you are going to write in your blog or emails, remember it is going to be read by other people
  • Always try to use correct grammar, spelling and punctuation- no abbreviations!
  • Make sure that you read over your entry/email before you post/send it- check the spelling and that it makes sense to your reader.

You are broadcasting yourself to the world. Present yourself in the best possible light.
